Bio

Artist Jukka Hautamäki (b. 1971) uses consumer goods, such as video cassettes or stale bread, as the material of his works. The works, which often take the form of an installation, is supported by sounds and images. Hautamäki investigates the interaction between nature and man, observing simple things, such as how the wind expresses itself or what the rustle of tree branches sounds without branches. The emphasis is often on the reciprocal dynamic between the individual works and on the overall mood.

In his video art, Hautamäki is making connections between painting, digital still images and film. Living objects together with abstract “chaos” create poetic stream of visual storytelling. His video works have been exhibited and screened in several European countries.

Sound art performances are usually accompanied by video projection. Hautamäkis live music is combination of digital sound processing, live sampling, diy synths and electro-acoustic sound improvisation. Hautamaki has been making sound art performances in Europe and North America.

Hautamäki is also working with diy electronics, Arduino and MaxMSP. He is founding member of Turku based experimental electronics association Kokomys. Hautamäki has kept interactive sound art and electronics workshops in Finland (MUU, Kokomys), Germany, Poland, Latvia and Estonia.
